Spotify Mac Remote

Spotify Mac Remote

Spotify Mac Remote is a plugin for Spotify that allows you to use your Mac’s remote control & multi-touch gestures to Play, Pause and change tracks.

To get it, do the following:

  1. If you don’t have it already, download SIMBL. This allows developers to easily load their own code into apps like Spotify. If you’re not sure if you have SIMBL, download it anyway to make sure.
  2. Once you’ve extracted and installed SIMBL restart your mac then download our plugin bundle.
  3. Extract the .bundle file from the zip and move it to your Macintosh HD /Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/
  4. Enjoy controlling Spotify from across the room!

If you’re having any problems or you have any questions feel free to get in touch!

The next, play/pause and previous buttons work exactly as you’d expect, the volume buttons control the system volume and holding the menu button quits Spotify – in case you want to use Frontrow.

Please note that when there are updates for Spotify you may need to download a new version of the plugin.

Oh, and thanks to IOSpirit for the remote control code!

Update: Now a Universal binary so should work on older PPC Macs.

Update 2: Now works with the latest versions of Spotify.

Update 3: Added preliminary support for control with multi-touch gestures. Three finger swipe left and right to change tracks, up or down to pause.

Update 4 (8th Jan 2010): Finally updated to work with the latest versions of Spotify. The remote code has now been completely swapped out for some much better code, which won’t let iTunes launch itself in Snow Leopard. Users of Mac OS 10.6.0 or 10.6.1 may need to download Candelair (an alternative driver for the Apple remote) or update to 10.6.2 to gain full functionality.
